About 125 years ago, i.e. in 1886 A.D. Thibbotugoda village had only two Buddhist monasteries and one temple. A dispute occurred when certain religious activities were conducted in one monastery.It went out of control and since there was no solution to the problem, a person named Juwan Fernando and four others went to a place called Makawita at that time and met a foreign priest and converted to Catholicism. This is considered to be the birth of Thibbotugoda dynasty.
