ගැමි ජනයාගේ ප්‍රධානම ජිවනෝපාය කුඹුරැ ගෙවිතැන විය.
මෙම ගම්මානයන්හි අතීතය හාරා අවුස්සාන්නාවු ඔනෑම අයෙකු හට දක්නට ලැබෙන්නේ පළමුවන රාජසිංහ රජ සමයේ දිවයින ආක්‍රමණය කොට සිටින ලද පෘතුග්‍රීසින් පලවා හැරීම සදහා යුධ සේනා මෙහෙයවද්දී මෙම පලාත් භාරව ඩිංගිරි නම් රජ කුමාරයෙක් මේ පදේශය භාරව ක්‍රීයාකර ඇති බවත්,සතුරන් හා සටන් කිරිම පිනිස ආරක්ෂිත ස්ථානයක් වශයෙන් මෙහි පිහිටි කදු ගැටයක් භාවිතා කළ බවට මුඛ පරම්පාරානුගත වංශ කථාවල පැවසේ.එසේ නම් නිරානුමානව රජ පවුලට අයත් කුමාරවරැ නිළමෙවරැ මෙන්ම රාජකීය පනිවුඩකරැවන් සහ රට ආරක්ෂාකිමට සහය වු රණවිරැවන් මෙම ගම් පියස් හරහා කොතෙකුත් ගමන් කොට ඇත්ද යන්න අප හට සිතාගත හැක.
තවද ඒ සදහා ඇති කදිම උදාහරණය වන්නේ මෙතෙක් ඉතිරිව ඇති නාම මාත්‍රයක් වශයෙන් හදුන්වනු ලබන ඩිංගිරි කඩුව නමින් පදේශයේ සෑම අයෙකුගේම සිත් ඇදගත් ඇල මාර්ගයක් වන ඩිංගිරි කඩුව යන ඇල මාර්ගයයි.
ඒ අනුව බලන කළ මෙම ගම්මානය ෙළුතිහාසික වටිනාකමක් ඇති පසුබිමක් අනුව ගොඩනැගී ඇති පැරණි ගම්මානයක් වශයෙන් හදුන්වා දීමට අප කිසිවිටකත් පසුබට නොවිය යුතුය.
1815 දී ඉංග්‍රීසින් අතට සිරකරැවකු බවට පත් තුන් සිංහලයේ අන්තිම සිංහල රජ වන ශ්‍රී වික්‍රම රාජසිංහ නම් වූ මහ නිරිදුන් සිරකරැවකු ලෙසින් මහනුවර සිට කොලොම්තොටට රැගෙන යන ලද්දේද තිබ්බොටුගොඩ මායිමක් ගෙස සැලකෙන එමෙන්ම සභාවක් ලෙස 1999 ඔක්තෝම්බර් මස 01 වන තෙක් පැවති ප්‍රධාන දෙව් මැදුර අසලින් බව මුඛපරම්පරානුගත කථාවන්හි සදහන් වීම ද විශේෂත්වයකි.
About 125 years ago, i.e. in 1886 A.D. Thibbotugoda village had only two Buddhist monasteries and one temple. A dispute occurred when certain religious activities were conducted in one monastery. It went out of control and since there was no solution to the problem, a person named Juwan Fernando and four others went to a place called Makawita at that time and met a foreign priest and converted to Catholicism. This is considered to be the birth of Thibbotugoda dynasty. The ancient writings mention that St. Isidore's statue, gifted by Beatha Maria, a Spanish devout lady, was brought into the Church and established it with great celebrations. The Thibbotugoda Church, which was a parish of only four Christian families, took the shape of a small hut which had a Cross fixed in it. As time passed by the Parish Community grew and the need of a structured Church emerged. In order to satisfy this need, under the guidance of the first Parish Priest of Thibbotugoda Parish,
Rev. Fr. Stewart the Church work began in 1886 during the month of May. The work was inaugurated by then Bishop, His Lordship Rev. Bonjan. In order to complete the Church building, including Fr. Stewart and his seven successors had to put their heart and soul in the efforts. The building of the Church was successfully completed after 37 years in 1924, during the period of Rev. Fr. C. M. Fernando. There was a new dawn for the sub parish Thibbotugoda, when Rev. Fr. Augustine Gallo Balma, a skilled Italian Engineer, was appointed to the main parish Midellawita. With this change, the extension and renovation of the old Church began in May 1962 and was completed within eight years in 1970. Two significant milestones of the history of the Church are, being able to celebrate the 100th Jubilee in 1987 as well as the 125th Jubilee in 2012. In 1972, four nuns of from the order of Sisters of Providence came to stay permanently in the Parish. They have continued to offer their spiritual support for almost 40 years. We are grateful for the service they offer to the society with the pre-school they started in the village. It is also important to call to mind, the Palm Sunday Procession started by Rev. Fr. Gallo Balma in 1974.
Laying foundation stone of the Jubilee
The period of Rev. Fr. Mervin Jayakodi who came after Rev. Fr. Volter Silva servered three years (1978-1981). Getting water to the mission house, laying the foundation for the 100th jubilee were few of his services.
He is prominent because he worked for the spiritual life of the people and cared about the church a lot. For the 125th jubilee he urged the people to reconstruct the church and beautify it. Rev. Fr. Terry, as the Shepherd of the Thibbotugoda church is currently guiding the people to work towards the God.
1981-1983
Rev. Fr. Elmo Dias worked for two years. During his period he worked to increase people’s spirituality and beautified the church and the garden.1983-1986
Rev. Fr. Maxwell Silva worked for two years. During his period he totally focused on 100th jubilee. He bought an electric Organ in May 1983 and started St. Isidore’s Novena. The proposal for the jubilee ceremony and formation of jubilee hall was initiated in this period.100th Jubilee
Rev. Fr. Antony who came after Rev. Fr. Maxwell Silva had to shoulder responsibilities to celebrate the 100th jubilee. His Grace Rt. Rev. Dr. Nicholas Marcus resided over the vespers and festive high Mass on 6th of June 1987.1987-1992
Rev. Fr. Christopher Julius was able to win the hearts of many people of the parish. He placed the secred relic of St. Isidore, which was brought by Rev. Fr. Gallo Balma close to the statue of St. Isidore on June, 1989.1992-1997
Rev. Father Noel Nonis took the responsibility after Rev. Father Christopher Julius. Within 5 years he gave a strong spiritual development in “Thibbotugoda”. Rev. Fr. Noel was able to promote the devotion of the people to sacred heart and to mother mary and took many initiatives to celebrate the Easter services meaningfully.1997-1999
For 112 years (1887-1999) the “Thibbotugoda” church was under Midellawita parish. The parish of Thibbotugoda was named as a new parish on 1st of October 1999. It was the turning point of the mission of the Thibbotugoda parish. Rev. Fr. Lawrance Jayathilake (O.M.I.) was previledged to be the 1st parish preist of the parish.2002
Rev. Fr. Joseph Perera came after Rev. Fr. Lawrance Jayathilake. He was able to work only for few months.2003-2010
Rev. Fr. Blaise Cooray, during his period of mission was able to inspire the people towards recitation of Rosary and devotion to mother Mary. It was so remarkable to send some representatives to the Diocesan Apostolic service of the pastoral visitation. He could do his more services to uplift the standards of the Sunday School. New hall for children is the sign and effort of his deep love towards childran.Rev. Fr. Ranjith Terry Fernando
Rev. Fr. Ranjith Terry the present parish priest with the fullest support of the parishioners could do a good job to mark the 125th jubilee in a grand scale.
